Grilled Cheese Burger Sandwich with Cheddar and Mozzarella
This sandwich crosses a cheeseburger with a classic grilled cheese: a thin, seasoned beef patty is tucked between two kinds of cheese and pan-toasted in buttered bread until crisp and gooey. It is a quick, satisfying lunch or casual dinner with fries or a salad.

Preparation Steps
Mix the ground beef with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Divide into 2 portions and press each into a thin patty a little larger than a slice of bread.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until well browned and cooked through to 160°F (71°C). Set aside.
Butter one side of each bread slice. Turn 2 slices butter side down and top each with 2 slices of cheddar, a patty and 2 slices of mozzarella. Add any toppings you like, then close with the remaining bread, butter side up.
Wipe out the skillet and set it over medium heat. Cook the sandwiches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden and the cheese has melted.
Cut in half and serve hot.
Tips & Variations
- Keep the heat at medium when toasting so the cheese has time to melt before the bread browns too much.
- Try pepper jack or Swiss instead of mozzarella, or add a spoonful of burger sauce inside.
- Refrigerate cooked patties for up to 3 days and reheat until steaming hot before assembling; the finished sandwich is best eaten right away.
