Spiced, double-coated chicken strips crisp up in the air fryer with just a spray of oil, then go on top of a salad with shredded cheese and crunchy fried onions. A simple homemade ranch ties it together, making a filling lunch or dinner salad.

Air Fryer Chicken Tender Salad with Homemade Ranch

Preparation Steps

1Step 1

Whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder and parsley in a small bowl, and season with salt and pepper. Cover and refrigerate.

2Step 2

Mix all the spice mix ingredients together. Sprinkle half over the chicken strips and toss to coat.

3Step 3

In a large zip-top bag or shallow dish, combine the flour, baking powder, cornstarch and the rest of the spice mix. In a separate shallow bowl, beat the egg with the milk.

4Step 4

Coat the chicken in the flour mixture, dip it in the egg, then coat it in the flour mixture again. Set the strips on a plate and let them rest for 15 minutes so the coating sets.

5Step 5

Heat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Spray the basket with oil, add the chicken in a single layer and spray the tops well.

6Step 6

Air fry for 10 to 14 minutes, turning halfway and spraying any dry spots, until golden and the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). Rest for 5 minutes, then slice.

7Step 7

Divide the salad between two bowls and top with the cheese, fried onions and chicken. Serve with the ranch on the side.

Tips & Variations

  • Spray every floury spot with oil before and after turning; dry flour stays pale and powdery in the air fryer.
  • Use chicken tenderloins instead of sliced breasts, or swap the ranch for honey mustard or blue cheese dressing.
  • Keep leftover chicken and dressing separately in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat the chicken in the air fryer until steaming hot before adding it to fresh salad.
