Cajun Surf and Turf with Ribeye Steak and Garlic Shrimp
This surf and turf pairs juicy Cajun-rubbed ribeye with quick garlic shrimp cooked in the same pan to pick up all the browned bits. A squeeze of lemon brightens the spice. It is a great choice for a special dinner at home without much effort.

Preparation Steps
Rub the steaks all over with the olive oil and Cajun seasoning. Leave them at room temperature for 20 minutes while you prepare the rice or mashed potatoes.
Heat a heavy skillet, ideally cast iron, over medium-high heat until very hot. Sear the steaks for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare (130 to 135°F / 54 to 57°C), or longer for your preferred doneness.
Add the butter during the last minute and spoon it over the steaks as it foams. Transfer the steaks to a board and let them rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
Lower the heat to medium and add the olive oil for the shrimp to the same skillet. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
Add the shrimp in a single layer, sprinkle with the Cajun seasoning and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until pink, curled and opaque.
Pour in the lemon juice and toss to coat the shrimp in the pan juices.
Slice the steaks against the grain. Serve with the shrimp over rice or mashed potatoes, spooning over any pan juices, and garnish with parsley.
Tips & Variations
- Pat the steaks and shrimp dry with paper towels before seasoning for a better sear.
- Cajun seasoning is often salty, so taste before adding extra salt. Sirloin or New York strip can replace ribeye.
- Refrigerate leftover steak and shrimp in a covered container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet until steaming, or slice cold over a salad.
