Grilled Cheese Burger Sandwich with Cheddar and Mozzarella
This sandwich combines a thin, well-seasoned beef patty with the melty, crispy appeal of a grilled cheese. Two cheeses wrap the burger in gooey layers inside golden buttered bread. Serve it with fries, chips or a simple salad for a casual lunch or dinner.

Preparation Steps
Mix the ground beef with the garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Divide in half and press each portion into a thin patty slightly larger than a slice of bread.
Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through to 160°F (71°C). Transfer to a plate and wipe out the pan.
Butter one side of each bread slice. Lay two slices butter side down and top each with 2 slices of cheddar, a patty, any toppings you like, and 2 slices of mozzarella. Close with the remaining bread, butter side up.
Heat the skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden and the cheese has melted.
Let rest for 1 minute, then cut in half and serve hot.
Tips & Variations
- Keep the heat moderate when toasting; too hot and the bread burns before the cheese melts.
- Swap mozzarella for pepper jack for a spicy kick, or spread a little mayonnaise on the outside of the bread for an extra-crisp crust.
- These sandwiches are best fresh. Refrigerate cooked patties for up to 3 days and reheat until steaming before assembling and toasting.
