Texas firecrackers are crackers coated in seasoned oil and left overnight to soak up all the flavor, no oven needed. They turn into a crunchy, spicy, herby snack that is hard to stop eating. Put them out for game day, parties or alongside soup and dips.

Texas Firecrackers with Chili Flakes and Italian Seasoning

Preparation Steps

1Step 1

Tip the crackers into a large resealable bag or a big lidded container.

2Step 2

Pour the olive oil over the crackers, then sprinkle in the Italian seasoning and chili flakes.

3Step 3

Seal the bag, pressing out most of the air, and gently turn it over and over until every cracker is coated. Handle it carefully so the crackers don't break.

4Step 4

Leave the sealed bag at room temperature overnight, turning it every so often, so the crackers absorb the oil and seasoning evenly.

5Step 5

Serve the crackers as they are or with a creamy dip.

Tips & Variations

  • Start with 1 to 2 tablespoons of chili flakes if you prefer less heat; the full amount is very spicy.
  • Add a packet of ranch seasoning or a teaspoon of garlic powder for a different flavor.
  • Store in an airtight bag or container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
